Old-Fashioned Goulash

Old-Fashioned Goulash Recipe

Ingredients

2 lbs ground beef or turkey

3 teaspoons minced garlic

1 large yellow onion, diced

2 ½ cups water

½ cup beef broth

⅓ cup olive oil

2 (15-ounce) cans tomato sauce

2 (15-ounce) cans diced tomatoes (undrained)

1 tablespoon Italian seasoning

1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional, for depth of flavor)

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

½ teaspoon black pepper

2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions

1. Brown the Meat – In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef or turkey, breaking it up as it cooks. Once browned, drain any excess grease.

2. Sauté Aromatics – Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the meat, cooking until the onion is softened and translucent.

3. Add Liquids & Tomatoes – Pour in the water, beef broth, tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes. Stir well to combine.

4. Season the Goulash – Mix in Italian seasoning, soy sauce (if using), paprika, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

5. Cook the Pasta – Add the uncooked elbow macaroni, stir, and cover the pot. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the pasta is tender.

6. Final Touch – If using, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, cover, and let it melt for a few minutes.

7. Serve & Enjoy – Stir well and serve warm!
