For the Hamburger Steaks:
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup milk
1 egg
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
For the Onion Gravy:
1 large onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Make the Hamburger Steaks:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Mix until just combined and form into 4 patties.
2. Cook the Steaks:
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side until browned.
Remove from the skillet and set aside.
3. Make the Onion Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt butter and add sliced onions. Cook until soft and golden, about 5 minutes.
Sprinkle in flour, stirring constantly, and cook for 1 minute.
Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.
4. Combine & Serve:
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, spooning some gravy over them.
Simmer for another 5-7 minutes until the steaks are cooked through.
