Fried Cabbage with Bacon, Onion, and Garlic—a delicious, savory side dish packed with flavor!
Ingredients:
1 head cabbage, chopped
1 onion, chopped
2 tsp minced garlic
5 slices bacon, chopped
½ tsp onion powder
½ tsp garlic powder
Salt and black pepper, to taste
½ tsp smoked paprika (optional, for extra depth of flavor)
1 tbsp butter (optional, for extra richness)
Instructions:
1. Cook the bacon – In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set it aside, leaving the bacon grease in the pan.
2. Sauté the onion and garlic – Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
3. Add the cabbage – Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet and toss it in the bacon grease. Cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage softens and starts to brown.
4. Season it up – Sprinkle in the onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
5. Finish it off – Add the crispy bacon back to the pan and mix everything together. For extra richness, stir in a tablespoon of butter.
6. Serve – Enjoy it hot as a side dish or as a main meal with cornbread
