🍏 Slow Cooker Cracker Barrel Fried Apples
Ingredients:
- 6 large tart apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- ¼ cup apple juice or apple cider
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons butter, sliced
Instructions:
-
Prepare apples:
Peel, core, and slice apples into ½-inch thick wedges. Place them into the slow cooker. -
Mix coating:
In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the apples. -
Add liquids and butter:
Pour apple juice and lemon juice over the apples, then scatter butter slices on top. -
Cook:
Cover and cook on LOW for 3 hours or until the apples are tender but not mushy. Gently stir once about halfway through. -
Thicken sauce (optional):
If you want the sauce thicker, remove the lid during the last 20–30 minutes or stir in a slurry of 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 1 tablespoon cold water. -
Serve warm:
Serve as a side dish, spoon over pancakes, waffles, pork chops, or enjoy with vanilla ice cream.
Tip:
For that true Cracker Barrel flavor, use a mix of tart and sweet apples — Granny Smith + Fuji or Gala work beautifully together.
