Savory Meat Filled Dumplings

🥟 Savory Meat-Filled Dumplings Recipe

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup sour cream (or Greek yogurt as a substitute)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2–3 tbsp water (as needed to form a smooth dough)

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb ground meat (beef, pork, chicken, or a mix)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped or grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce (optional, for deeper flavor)

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough

    • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
    • Add the egg and sour cream. Mix with a fork until crumbly.
    • Gradually add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, kneading until a soft, elastic dough forms.
    • Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes while you prepare the filling.
  2. Prepare the Filling

    • In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, and optional seasonings.
    • Mix well until fully combined. You can chill it for 15 minutes to make shaping easier.
  3. Assemble the Dumplings

    • Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about ⅛-inch thick.
    • Cut circles using a cookie cutter or glass (about 3 inches in diameter).
    • Place 1 teaspoon of filling in the center of each circle.
    • Fold in half and pinch the edges tightly to seal (you can crimp with a fork for design).
  4. Cook the Dumplings
    Boiled:

    • Bring a pot of salted water to a gentle boil.
    • Add dumplings in batches; cook until they float to the top (about 5–7 minutes).
    • Remove with a slotted spoon and drizzle lightly with butter or oil.

    Pan-Fried (for crispy bottoms):

    • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a skillet. Add dumplings and fry until golden on the bottom.
    • Pour in ¼ cup water, cover, and steam for 5 minutes. Uncover and cook until water evaporates.

Serving Suggestions

Serve hot with:

  • Sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • Soy sauce with vinegar and chili oil
  • Caramelized onions or melted butter for a classic touch

Pro Tips

  • Keep the dough covered to prevent drying while shaping.
  • You can freeze uncooked dumplings in a single layer and cook from frozen later — just add 2 minutes to the cook time.
  • Mixing a bit of finely chopped cabbage or mushrooms into the filling adds extra flavor and
