Homemade Stuffing Balls

Homemade Stuffing Balls Recipe

These golden-brown Stuffing Balls are the perfect side dish for your holiday dinner or any cozy family meal. They’re crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside, and packed with classic Thanksgiving flavors—herbs, onions, celery, and buttery bread. Unlike traditional stuffing baked in a dish, these balls hold their shape beautifully and are great for portion control or serving alongside roasted turkey, chicken, or pork.

Ingredients:

  • 10 cups day-old bread cubes (white or whole wheat) — forms the base, absorbing flavor and moisture.
  • 1 cup finely chopped onion — adds sweetness and depth.
  • 1 cup chopped celery — brings crunch and freshness.
  • ½ cup unsalted butter — provides rich flavor and helps brown the stuffing.
  • 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning — gives that classic Thanksgiving aroma.
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage — deepens the flavor with an earthy touch.
  • ½ teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon black pepper — to balance the seasoning.
  • 1¾ cups chicken broth — moistens the mixture and helps bind it together.
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten — hold the stuffing balls firm during baking.
  • Optional: ½ cup chopped parsley or fresh herbs for brightness.

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and celery; cook until tender and fragrant, about 8 minutes.
  3. Stir in poultry seasoning, sage, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes and sautéed vegetables. Mix well to distribute the flavor evenly.
  5. Whisk together chicken broth and eggs in a small bowl. Gradually pour over the bread mixture, tossing until everything is moistened but not soggy.
  6. Shape the mixture into golf ball-sized portions (about 2 inches each). Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp on the outside.
  8. For extra flavor, brush with melted butter halfway through baking.

Pro Tips:

  • If the mixture feels too dry, add a few tablespoons more broth.
  • For a crispy finish, broil the balls for 2 minutes at the end.
  • Add chopped cooked sausage, bacon, or mushrooms for a richer variation.

These Stuffing Balls are make-ahead friendly — just form them, refrigerate, and bake when ready. They’re comforting, flavorful, and guaranteed to steal the spotlight on your dinner table!
